PINK THE RINK NIGHT RETURNS TO ASSINIBOINE CREDIT UNION PLACE

Brandon, MB – October 21st, 2026 – The Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings, in association with the Keystone Centre, are pleased to announce the return of “Pink the Rink” this Sunday afternoon at 4pm when the defending champion Everett Silvertips pay a visit to Assiniboine Credit Union Place.

In addition to wearing special theme jerseys for the game, sponsored by Trans Canada Brewing, the Wheat Kings will be skating on “pink” ice for the first time in club history. As well, the jerseys will be available for auction and fans will have the opportunity to purchase pink pucks.

Proceeds from the sale of the jerseys and pucks will go directly to supporting the Hope in Our Backyard campaign, which local dragon boat paddling team – the Waves of Hope – is leading to support Breast Cancer Cell and Molecular Research Lab at Brandon University.

“The Keystone Centre is proud to bring Pink the Rink back to Brandon,” says General Manager and CEO Connie Lawrence. “This initiative represents the power of community, partnership and our commitment to making a difference beyond our walls”

“This game will have an enormous impact on our Hope in our Backyard campaign, raising awareness of Dr. Majumber’s work for early detection of breast cancer, says Michelle Gerrard, Waves of Hope team manager. “More lives are saved when breast cancer is caught early, so we must support her research in this area.”

“The research happening right here in Brandon, in our own backyard, is having an international impact…it’s not being done anywhere else in the world,” she went on to say. “We thank the Wheat Kings, the Keystone Centre and Trans Canada Brewing  for their generosity in hosting this event,” she went on to say.

“This game is a meaningful opportunity for our community to come together in support of Waves of Hope and those lives that have been impacted by breast cancer,” says the Keystone Centre’s Carson McConnell, who has been one of the driving forces behind the initiative. “We’re proud to partner with the Wheat Kings on an event that not only raises awareness and support for this important cause, but also helps advance vital breast cancer research being conducted at Brandon University. The dedication of local researchers continues to make a difference and we are honoured to play a small role in supporting those efforts, while bringing our community together for a great afternoon of hockey and philanthropy.”

For the Wheat Kings, this “Pink the Rink” Night will mark their twelfth time that the club has hosted this game, with the first one held back in 2014 and the club’s VP of Business Operations Mike Filipchuk says this could be one of the best ever.

“This event is about more than hockey…it’s about supporting those impacted by breast cancer and helping to make a difference in our community.”

“With all funds raised staying local, we’re proud to be part of an initiative that supports individuals and families…while helping move us closer to finding a cure,” says Filipchuk.

This year’s theme jerseys have been made possible through the generous support of the Trans Canada Brewing Company, which is relatively new to Brandon but has been a popular Winnipeg craft beer market institution for the past decade.

Alana Porritt is currently leading sales and partnership in Brandon and Western Manitoba as they build the new Brewery and Taproom, expected to open in 2027, and she says TCB is excited to be part of this important community event.

“Trans Canada Brewing is honoured to team up for this game in support of critical breast cancer research,” says Porritt. “As we expand in Brandon, we’re thrilled to join a community that consistently shows up and rallies together for such an important cause.”

Trans Canada Brewing, the Wheat Kings and the Keystone Centre are looking forward to what should be an exciting, entertaining and important event.

“We have worked hard to bring this event to life,” says Lawrence “and we hope our community will stand with us this Sunday (October 25th) to support breast cancer research and help create hope for the future.”
